SUN is actively working with other Senior groups to develop a strategy and an agenda for the next Provincial election. This past month we met with CARP - Edmonton and drafted an open letter to all Senior groups in an attempt to move this effort forward. We hope to send this letter out in December. We want to address issues that are of concern to our seniors now so we can have this on the table when an election is called.

Again, SUN is continuing to promote and show “The Health Care Movie” in our Chapters and we will gladly come to your community, show the movie and lead a discussion on actions we can take. Thus far SUN has shown the Movie in St. Albert and the North East Edmonton Chapter as well as at the SCONA Seniors Centre in Edmonton with plans to show it in Sherwood Park and at the Millwoods Leisure Centre in January. This is a movie EVERY Canadian should see as it makes you proud to be a Canadian and to sum it up in the words of Tommy Douglas, “People are more important than profits.”

If your community or group would like to have SUN present this excellent documentary contact the SUN office.

SUN issued a major News Release in November entitled “Seniors at Risk in Long Term Care Facilities” which was featured on the front page of Edmonton Senior Paper.

The new Minister of Seniors, Hon. George VanderBerg has indicated that he is proceeding toward enacting legislation on a  Property Tax Deferment Plan that SUN has been advocating about for two years now.
