NEWS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
DATE: May 10, 2005 Release #3.22
Sherwood Park, Alberta:
The Reality of Long-Term Care
Ron Ellis of Seniors United Now says that he felt privileged to participate in the recent media conference with Lynda Jonson of Seniors I Care and Harvey Voogd of Friends of Medicare.
We are inundated with reality programs but what could be more real than this. What could be more real, more compelling than the compassion and commitment of Lynda, asks Ellis.
Ellis went on to say the reality is that today many if not most families in Alberta have a loved one that requires supportive or long-term care.
The reality is that if you are not one of those families today, most likely you will be tomorrow. The reality is that many if not most of us will require supportive or long-term care in the future. The reality is that this is something that many if not most of us do not want to think or talk about. Perhaps it reminds us of our own mortality. Perhaps, but there is no denying that this is part of real life. And finally, the reality is that an issue must attract and sustain a critical mass of attention and support before any change will take place.
We urge all Albertans to pay attention to what is happening and perhaps more importantly, to what is not happening in supportive and long-term care in our communities, in our province.
Seniors United Now is a non-partisan, non-profit provincial organization that raises awareness of issues related to Seniors in Alberta.
