Long-Term Care accommodation fees increasing
Jul 27, 2007 --

The Alberta Seniors United Now Society is disappointed that the 5% increase in long term care accommodation fees was not followed by a corresponding increase by the Provincial Government in their funding for Nursing Care Services.

Seniors United Now is very concerned about the rising care needs of Patients in long term care facilities and that Provincial Government financial support is not matching needs. This is a serious issue that requires the immediate attention of the Provincial Government. Patient concerns are increasing and our members advise that patients are being put at risk as care givers strive to cope with increasing care demands.

Seniors United Now is also concerned about access to long term care beds. Our population is aging and increasing but long term care beds are not.  How much can home care fill the gap? We believe that the recently announced increases in home care maximum funding is only a stop gap measure.  We fear that a crisis is looming.

Seniors United Now or SUN as we are more commonly referred to is a non-profit, non-partisan, province wide organization. Our vision is to be a leading resource and advocate on seniors’ issues.
