Rita holds a B.A. in Bilingual Studies from Laurentian University in Sudbury, Ontario, and a B.Ed. and a Diploma in Secondary FSL, Français and ESL, from the University of Alberta.
She has 30 years of experience in the education sector, working for the Edmonton Public School Board, the Government of Alberta, and the Alberta Teachers’ Association. She has served as a teacher, a mentor and student activities coordinator, and an executive member of various education committees.
She retired from her career to become a full-time caregiver. She has completed several online courses on dementia, elder care, home care, and mental health from reputable institutions such as the Wicking Dementia Centre, Alzheimer’s organizations and AHS.
She is currently a volunteer, a lifelong learner, and an advocate for seniors, education, and dementia.
She joined the SUN Board in April 2023.
